$5 shorts!

Michael Jackson?
Surreal.
I loved his music growing up. Thinking about him makes me want to watch Free Willy.

Last night I did something very unusual: I went shopping. I never buy clothes for myself. Once in a while I'll find myself in Goodwill, where I'll see a shirt or a skirt that I like, and I'll get it. But (he he) I tend to wait and let my parents take me clothes shopping once or twice a year. I'm still young enough to get away with that. Anyhow, I realized that I dont have the clothes I want/need for the summer, gave myself a budget, and went out to Old Navy. They were selling shorts for $5!! A pleasant surprise. Until last night, I had one pair of non-athletic shorts to my name and so I loaded up. Then I hopped back in the car to listen to Smoltzy's start, which left something to be desired to say the least, but it's the man's first time back from a long, long winter (so to speak). It would have been great if he came back and completely dominated, but the guy's been pitching to AAA kids for the last 3 months. I'm willing to wait this out, give him the benefit of the doubt... and you'll notice that he locked in for the last few innings, retired something like the last 7 batters he faced. Bard had another inconsistent outing- definitely has some more developing to do, but if Theo lets it happen he'll be our closer in a couple years when Cinco Ocho is in pinstripes (as much as it pains me to say). I'm excited to see Bard back in Pawtucket this summer, because the next time he goes up, it'll be for good I'm sure. Selfish thought. Of course I'd love to see him stick it out in Boston for the rest of the season but things are going to get really interesting over the next 30 days.
Please dont make any trades we'll regret.

Today started with sun, and will end with rain. I am extremely upset with the way the weather has been. This weekend was supposed to be a break from all of the grey skies and rain. Now it looks like thunderstorms, and the possibility of hail tomorrow afternoon. I dont care, I will be in Pawtucket no matter what... I've waited long enough. Next week is also forecasted to be rainy, which is terrible as a few area churches have put together this Soccer Nights soccer camp - free - for kids around the area. Supposed to get around 300 participants. I'm volunteering as a team coach. Playing in the rain is fun, and at least it will be warm rain. But enough already. June was 97% rain, and that's no way to kick the summer into gear.

A new housemate moved in last night. Cory. More to come on that, but after 45 minutes of first-impression chat, he gets the thumbs up.

Quick Lunchtime Nothings

What is going on with all this rain? It has to end sometime.. I feel like we're being gypped out of summer. Saturday and Sunday (forecasted to be SUNNY) cant come soon enough. My hair is going crazy- it's naturally very curly, and I straighten it all the time, but during any sort of humidity it's neither straight nor curly- just frizzy.

Lowell Spinners tonight? Too wet out? Time will tell. It might be nice to just watch the Sox game on TV but I need to "meet" this year's Spinners team, and soon. Cant wait to see Lowrie this weekend.

Trader Joe's. Chicken and cilantro wontons. Cheap, and almost nothing in terms of fat or calorie content. Sounds like a winner to me.

10:30pm
Dusty Brown just came into the game, 9th inning, Boston is whooping Washington 11-3. Bard has one out, 2 on, throwin the heat at 97mph. Sad (not the right word, but you know..) that both Bard and Brown debuted on the road. Yikes, bases loaded now... Bard's gettin hit.

10:43pm
One double play later, Red Sox win it.

I'm A Winner

There's no time tonight, but i must mention: I won two twitter-based trivia contests today, one from Jerry Remy's twitter account and the other from AceTickets' account. From Remy- a $200 gift cert to AceTickets (this is HUGE for someone like me who's gonna be at 30+ games during the season.. every free ticket is fantastic). From AceTickets- free field box seats to the game tonight, Sox vs Marlins, 6/17. It was called after 5 innings due to serious rain but Victor and I stuck it out for quite a while. To think.. we started with Pavilion SRO and ended up in Section 11 field box seats. I really liked Section 11 for one reason in particular- it's situated smack dab between home and the right field wall. i could see Drew very well, and wasnt all that far from the action happening around home plate either (relatively.. wasnt like being in the bleachers, close to the outfielders but far from the infield action, or like being in the infield grandstands between the two dugouts where the outfielders are farther off). just an interesting perspective, and besides the EMC seats, I'm running out of new areas in Fenway to test out. Oh, the left field loge/box/low grandstands, and the right field roof boxes but i'm really not interested in right field seats in general, not a fan.

I was soaked for the entire night, even under my raincoat. At some point early on (before the game started, even) it didnt even matter anymore. The game itself was pretty unexciting as far as Red Sox games go. A highlight- watching the Nats beat the Yankees for the second time (consecutive wins too), and watching it on the huge scoreboard in centerfield. Pretty great watching the Yankees get beat by the worst team in baseball on a screen IN FENWAY PARK. Also great- the Cinco Ocho/Delcarmen Blame It On The Rain video. I saw it for the first time just over a year ago, actually- it was at the Celtics Parade at Fenway before that day's game when there was a torrential downpour- and it still hasnt gotten old. That song will forever be included in any Red Sox mix i create, and I subject my coworker to it every day near the end of work during our POWER HOUR of awesome tunes. (Also check out Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car by Billy Ocean.. not baseball-related.)

Bowden tomorrow. On 6 days of rest but i think we've gone over this already. Zink got a few innings in but they had to call it because of serious rain.. that's all i know and it's too late to check into it further.

I need to end this now, or i'll never get to sleep. Night.
